Socio-economic impact of chewing khat in the case of Anna Sora Woreda, Guji zone, Oromia regional state, southeastern part of Ethiopia

Background: Khat chewing practice has increased over the years and chronic khat use is associated with adverse socio-economic effects. Thus, this study was undertaken among chewers in case of Anna Sorra Woreda, Guji Zone, Oromia regional state, southeastern part Ethiopia to investigate effects chewing. Methods: Cross-sectional research design descriptive data analysis used. Diversion software used analyze my data. Simple random sampling method select respondents. Descriptive statistics were employed for summarization presentation Results: most commonly practiced male gender (66.3%), productive age group (82.5%), Orthodox Christians (56.3%), married (71.3%), uneducated (42.5%) low-earned (62.5%) people. Majority them initiated by peer pressure (52.5%) academic good performance (23.75%) continued religious purpose (12.5%) family habit (6.25%) other (5%). Just from respondents (38.8%) chewed daily. Most drank alcohol (50%) after coffee (20%), smoked cigarette (16.25%), soft drinks (8.75%) others substance (5%) while practicing reported perceived economic Half believed that they would plan stop future. Conclusions: The community, especially youth, need be aware negative consequences through designing educational strategies bring behavioral change.
